I’ve always been interested in clays ability to house our stories. It is within this tradition of narrative ceramics that my practice is positioned. Focusing on the interrelation between surface and form, this body of work is inspired by table manners and the numerous systems and traditions in place regulating dining. Anchored in tableware forms but resisting functionality, a visual language has been utilised that is purposefully playful. The surface treatment utilises images, symbols and text. Achieved with layers of hand painted underglaze, transfers, glaze and on occasion lustres.
